Who I am as a writer...
I have a resume with just my writing on it, but what motivates me?
I am a woman living with disabilities as a single mother, navigating chronic pain, Autism, and ADHD—conditions I didn’t fully understand until adulthood. Growing up in a family of business owners in rural Northern British Columbia, I felt immense pressure to keep our struggles private. Asking for help was viewed as exposing vulnerability, something we couldn’t afford. This isolation has profoundly shaped both my worldview and my work as a writer.
As someone who has often felt outside the norm, both geographically and socially, I’ve had to navigate my place in the world while balancing personal needs with societal expectations. This struggle informs much of my writing, and I plan to draw heavily from these experiences in The Book of Mari.
