About Amanda: Interdisciplinary Storyteller
About Amanda – The Arts
Amanda is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in writing, performance, and play-writing. She has been singing since before she could speak, training in opera and classical music through the Prince George School of Music and others, performing in choirs such as Bel Canto and Cantata Singers. From opera to popular music, Amanda can attempt anything, but if you want to know her favourite, she loves singing some harder rock and is currently developing her lower register with some Cher and Melissa Etheridge.
Amanda's theatrical experience began at age seven when her mother signed her up for a drama workshop with Theatre Northwest in Prince George, leading to roles in productions like Elves, with Theatre Northwest; Dracula: The Musical, at Prince Rupert Senior Secondary; L’echo d’un people, a Francophone production by Francoscenie, and most recently It's a Wonderful Life: Radio Show with Terrace Little Theatre, directed by Marion Brorup Weston with musical direction by Robin Hollett. Even as a cadet, Amanda enjoyed performing Drill & Ceremonial in uniform for audiences in productions such as The Ceremony of the Flags, Annual Gun-Run, and Competitive Drill Teams. Amanda’s most stress-relieving performances were as a percussionist in regional cadet cand competitions.
Eventually, Amanda tackled the art of writing and directing of her own play, Endurance, for Whitehorse’s Homegrown Theatre Festival. After multiple years' participating and writing in Nakai Theatre’s 24-Hour Play-writing Competition, she committed and brought something to the stage.
As a spoken word artist and storyteller, Amanda has performed for over a decade, blending personal narrative with themes of gender, folklore, and cultural memory. Before she wrote her plays, Amanda was performing at Brave New Sex a gender and sex-positive series of spoken word and poetry performances at a local café in Whitehorse, Yukon.
She has given talks and workshops on gender and the arts, using her platform to explore women’s voices in history and myth. Her creative writing includes genres like high fantasy, historical critique, and psychological horror, with a focus on deconstructing colonial narratives in speculative fiction. She is currently working on a High-Fantasy Novel script and hopes to complete it by the end of April. #StayTuned
Through her upcoming podcast, West Coast Acadian, and her work in independent publishing, Amanda's personal mission is to help other women tell their stories by being brave enough to tell hers. For more, read about the Podcast’s mission and strategy HERE.
